In response to concerns about the safety of students arriving to school during high-traffic times, we have been working with the municipality to improve the efficiency and safety of the student drop-off process. After observing the traffic flow around PHS during drop-off and pick-up times, city engineers have proposed several changes that we will be piloting beginning the week of November 13. The most significant change is that the Performing Arts Center parking lot off of Walnut Lane will be closed for student-drop off.
The volume of cars turning into and out of the compact PAC parking lot during the morning drop-off is creating a potentially hazardous situation for students and drivers. Starting the week of November 13, parents will NOT be allowed to pull into the PAC lot during the morning drop-off. Instead, it is recommended that parents come from the direction of Valley Road and drop off students along Walnut Lane by the football field. Two crossing guards will be stationed at the Walnut and Franklin intersection to ensure students are able to safely cross Walnut Lane. Please make sure that students exit your vehicle on the curb side and use crosswalks if they need to cross Walnut Lane. Please do not let students cross the street mid-block.
These changes may create some additional traffic delays along Walnut lane, so please allow extra time in your morning routine. Princeton police officers and city engineers will continue to monitor the traffic flow along Walnut Lane as we work to find a viable long-term solution. When possible, we encourage families to consider carpooling with neighbors, as that will significantly ease congestion during the busy morning drop-off.
Thank you for your cooperation as we work to improve the safety of our students during high-traffic times. If you have any questions or concerns, please let me know.
