WHAT IS THE PUERTO RICO PROJECT?
The Princeton High School Band Program along with support from the PHS Band Parents' Association and with guidance from administration have decided to sponsor and host the 6 students from Escuela Libre de Musica Ernesto Ramos Antonini in Puerto Rico, their director and 1 other chaperone this February in Princeton as they will prepare with and travel with the Princeton Studio Band and Jazz Ensemble to compete in the small combo division at Berklee.

This is an opportunity for our PHS students to make an actual difference in the lives of other students.  It's extremely impactful that our students already have a musical and social connection with the students from Puerto Rico.

While the students from Escuela Libre de Musica Ernesto Ramos Antonini are here, they will be sharing their stories (via video and pictures) with our students and working on musical projects with our students.  We would LOVE to have them interact with other classes and/or projects while they are here.  Some PHS teachers have already been in contact with us about ideas to collaborate with their classes and curriculum.

Our vision for this endeavor consists of 3 goals:

  • 1.  To give the students from Puerto Rico an enriching Berklee Jazz Festival experience that they initially were planning to have prior to Hurricane Maria.
  • 2.  To send each student/chaperone home with 2 additional suitcases full of supplies for their immediate family and community that will have an immediate impact.
  • 3.  To send as many additional supplies to Puerto Rico as we can generate via funds collected or items donated (more info on this coming).
  • For right now, we're starting to collect funds and planning their stay in Princeton in February prior to the Berklee Festival.  Below is a list of supplies needed:
  • Supplies needed
